On August 7, the Russian Center for Science and Culture hosted a presentation of the publication of the book by Tajik military historian and journalist Gafur Shermatov “War and Victory. Tajikistan in the Great Patriotic War”
The presentation was opened by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Tajikistan Igor Lyakin-Frolov. He noted that this book is for those who want to get a comprehensive understanding of Tajikistan during the Great Patriotic War.
– The book is presented judiciously and impartially, but at the same time touching, revealing previously unknown documents of the Victory facts, events, photographs and giving the reader, along with new information, rich spiritual food about the contribution of the Tajik people to our common Victory, – the ambassador noted.

Doctor of Historical Sciences Viktor Dubovitsky, who has known Gafur Shermatov for many years, said that “reading this book, you literally plunge into the maelstrom of major historical events, the battles for Moscow, Stalingrad and the Caucasus, and the workdays of Tajikistan during the war years.” For the first time, within the framework of such a work, the historian presented unique documents, historical facts closely intertwined with images of the exploits of Tajiks at the front, incredible suffering and hardships in the rear. “
Abdullo Gafurov, Candidate of Historical Sciences, spoke about his impressions and the book.
– Gafur Shermatov, based on numerous sources from Tajik and Russian archives, created a truly serious book based on thorough archival research. Presenting historical events regarding Tajikistan in an accessible and visual form for a wide range of readers, – he said.
Public figure Galina Nazarova, who spoke next, read out a speech by Oleg Dmitrievich Sobolev, a front-line writer, the oldest journalist of Tajikistan.
“In this book and in his work on it, Gafur Shermatov showed himself as a tireless researcher. As a result, a work appeared, which we can rightfully call the most valuable property of the republic, especially since this work is based on reliable facts, ”the veteran wrote.
The book was published by the Aini Publishing House. The publication was carried out with the financial support of the Aini Literary Foundation. The presentation of the book was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, the Ministry of Defense, the National Academy of Sciences, the 201st Russian military base, veteran and public organizations, and journalists.
