Local elections are canceled on some of the Kiev-controlled territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the CEC of Ukraine said.
The CEC stated that such a decision was made after analyzing the data “provided by the Donetsk and Luhansk civil-military administrations.” Canceled “elections of deputies of individual rural, settlement, city councils of these regions and the corresponding rural, settlement, city mayors”, reports TASS.
In the Donetsk region, the decision will affect 10 united territorial communities: Svetlodarskaya, Toretskaya, Volnovakhskaya, Olginskaya, Ugledarskaya, Mirnenskaya, Sartan, Avdeevskaya, Maryinskaya and Ocheretinskaya. In the Luhansk region there are eight: Gorskaya, Lisichansk, Popasnyanskaya, Severodonetsk, Nizhneteplovskaya, Stanichno-Luganskaya, Shirokovskaya and Schastinskaya.
Elections are canceled due to proximity to the front line, the CEC said.
The Opposition Platform – For Life party called the CEC’s decision “theft of votes” and said it would appeal it in court. It is emphasized that such “anti-democratic lawlessness” is possible only from the side of the “dictatorial regime”. The party places full responsibility for the situation on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Recall Moscow pointed out Kiev for violation Minsk agreements in connection with the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of a resolution on holding local elections on October 25 throughout Ukraine, with the exception of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
