Abai Day has been declared in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan will celebrate the new holiday on August 10 – Abai Day. The country’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin has signed a decree amending the government’s decision to approve the list of holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The document states that “the list of holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan should be supplemented by the following article, approved by this resolution:” August 10 – Abai Day “.

This year marks the 175th anniversary of the famous poet. The International Organization for the Culture of Turkic Peoples (TURKSOY) decided in December last year to declare 2020 the Year of Abay Kunanbaev. Abay Kunanbaev, a philosopher, poet and educator, was born on August 10, 1845.
