Elections 2020. Legal and ethical standards when covering the electoral process

Online session “Legal and ethical standards in the coverage of the electoral process» will be held on the platform Zoom August 11 and 12, 2020.

During the training, the participants will be explained the important features of the media during the electoral process, their rights and obligations. The issues of responsibility of the media for violation of the electoral legislation will also be touched upon.

Based on the results of the webinar, a lawyer will give recommendations aimed at reducing legal risks when covering elections.

The training will Altynai Isaeva – a lawyer of the Public Foundation “Media Policy Institute” with seven years of experience.

She specializes in media law:

  • legal regulation of the activities of the media and journalists;
  • access to the information;
  • the right to the image;
  • responsibility of the media;
  • international standards of freedom of speech and expression.

Altynai Isaeva conducts lectures for students on media law and journalists, defends their rights in courts.

As part of a team of lawyers in 2017, she represented the interests of the media in significant litigation at the claims of the former head of state.

Subsequently, she participated in the preparation of an appeal to the UN Human Rights Committee on these cases. Also in 2018, together with a group of lawyers, she turned to the Constitutional Chamber with a request to recognize the norms of the Law “On guarantees of the activities of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic” as contrary to the Constitution.
