Kyrgyz media can receive grants to cover parliamentary elections

The Media Dialogue project invites the media of Kyrgyzstan to apply for grants for the preparation of information materials related to the elections to the Jogorku Kenesh on October 4, 2020.

The European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA) is leading this grant program.

The deadline for submitting project proposals is 23.59 (Bishkek time) on August 17 this year.

Priority will be given to projects that:

  • inform voters about their right to vote and how to exercise this right in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic;

  • organize and broadcast debates between candidates during the upcoming parliamentary elections and / or after them;

  • include materials from journalists from the regions for the production of quality content on topics related to elections and their subsequent coverage;

  • document, analyze and cover issues discussed during the election campaign to ensure further monitoring of the implementation of candidates’ election programs;

  • highlight the results of the work of local and international observers (OSCE).

In addition, funding can be allocated to projects that produce and broadcast other election-related media, especially if they are innovative and provide added value over existing formats of voting coverage in the Kyrgyz Republic.

For example, projects in data journalism or documentary journalism will be particularly relevant.

The maximum budget for project proposals under this request is 10,000 euros, minimum – 5,000 euros.
