At the end of July, parents of schoolchildren began receiving messages from teachers in the Whatsapp messenger. The message said that parents must provide complete information about the student’s family members infected with the coronavirus.
“This information is needed by the Bishkek City Administration to determine whether we will continue our studies remotely or return to school,” — said in the message.
However, most of the parents were outraged by this decision from the local government. Many noted that school administrators and local authorities should not demand data on the infected, because such information “should be confidential.”
“Teachers had to provide information indicating the surname, first name of the child, indicating the last name, first name and patronymic of parents, relatives who had had coronavirus or pneumonia, in which hospitals they were treated, etc. This caused great indignation from my parents at school. … And plus, this is a big and voluminous work “, — Tatiana Rotkina, the director of school No. 48, said at a meeting between the vice-mayor of Bishkek and school directors of the Pervomaisky district.
According to her, the school management fears “problems” that may arise due to the use of personal data when collecting information about infected family members of students.
Other parents reported that they did not know if they could have had the coronavirus, since they did not get tested for Covid-19.
“We ourselves do not know whether we have had the coronavirus or not. And the tests can come out negative, even if you were infected. We didn’t take tests, I don’t know how to answer their questions ”, – told “Kloop” a parent from Bishkek Ainura (name has been changed).
The mayor’s office says that they did not give such an order to the school authorities, and the district administrations were the initiators of collecting information about the sick.
Deputy Akim of Leninsky District Chynasyl Chynybaev reported in an interview with Kaktus.Mediathat they were instructed to collect information about infected family members of schoolchildren by the republican and city headquarters.
“We know that now every school and every class has WhatsApp groups. We asked the class teachers in these groups to ask the parents if their families were sick or in need of treatment, ” — he said.
According to Chynybayev, such information was collected solely “in order to provide timely assistance in cases of detection of the infected.”
“Even if 30% of 100% of those who are sick report it, we can help them. Perhaps they do not have the opportunity to receive treatment or they do not know where to go, then we can help them. For example, we will be informed that a person already has heavy breathing or something else, we can send a mobile team to him or help with hospitalization. We want to identify more people who are sick and save more lives, ” — noted Chynybaev.
