, Bishkek –,

The HIV / AIDS epidemic in Kyrgyzstan is growing. About this today at a press conference IA «» said Ulan Kadyrbekov, director of the Republican AIDS Center.

According to him, as of January 1, 2017, 7 thousand 117 cases of HIV infection were registered in the republic. “These are all the faces that have been identified since 1987. 6 thousand 747 of them are citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic. During all these years, some have left the country, 1 thousand 564 people have died. Currently, there are 5,553 living HIV-infected people. Children with HIV – 580. 3,500 people are registered at the dispensary. 2,668 people are receiving antiretroviral therapy, ”Ulan Kadyrbekov said.

He noted that now there is an unhealthy excitement in the country around the numbers for identifying HIV-infected people. “In 2016, 720 people were identified, but this was also achieved thanks to the improvement of the identification process. During the year, 362 thousand people were tested, ”added the head of the center.

“The most important thing is that without the participation of the population itself, the problem will remain urgent. Citizens must understand that preventive measures largely depend on themselves. You need to lead a healthy lifestyle, you need safe behavior, ”stressed Ulan Kadyrbekov.

“At the same time, the problem of state funding remains extremely important,” he admitted. “Gradually, government funding is increasing, but not enough.”
