In Dushanbe, a ceremony was held to hand over equipment for the 2020 population and housing census.

Within the framework of the new project “Strengthening demographic statistics in Tajikistan”, funded by the Government of the Russian Federation, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) handed over to the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan a set of equipment, consisting of 420 units of tablets, 100 units of laptops and 80 printers for the needs the forthcoming population and housing census.

The equipment transfer ceremony was attended by the Ambassador Counselor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Tajikistan Shamil Foatovich Shamsutdinov, Director of the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Hasanzoda Gulnora Kenja, employees of the above organizations, as well as representatives of the UN Population Fund, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner refugee affairs and media representatives.

«In the framework of close cooperation, we will be able to achieve success in this event – the population and housing census. The purchased tablets, laptops and printers will be the first in the country to conduct surveys using handed tablets, including Internet surveys, which will facilitate faster and more accurate data collection», – emphasized Mr. Hasanzoda Gulnora Kenja.

It should be noted that in the 2020 Population and Housing Census, three methods of data collection have been introduced. Paper questionnaires will mainly be used in rural areas of the country, while the Internet survey method and specialized electronic tablets will be used in cities.

«Russia supports Tajikistan in holding this event. Using this equipment, enumerators will visit households in the country and conduct a census, during which they will use electronic tablets, and those who wish to go through the Internet census will be able to do it on their own“, – said Mr. Shamil Foatovich Shamsutdinov.

The aim of the project “Strengthening demographic statistics in Tajikistan” is to assist the Agency on Statistics in the collection, processing and analysis of demographic data, as well as to improve their use in the planning process, development of the budget of investment programs at all levels.

The Government of the Russian Federation has allocated US $ 2.15 million to support this project.
