Elyor Ganiev left the post of Minister of Transport

Elyor Ganiev, who worked as the Minister of Transport since January 2020, was relieved of his post due to his transfer to another job.

As reported with reference to their sources in the government Gazeta.uz and Kun.uz Elyor Ganiev was relieved of his post by a presidential decree of 5 August. However, the text of the document has not yet been made public.

Ganiev’s new place of work, as well as a new candidate for the post of Minister of Transport, has not yet been reported.

Elyor Ganiev (born 1960) graduated from the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute (1981). For many years he worked in the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade (MFERIT). In 1997-2002, he was the Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, in 1994-1997 – Deputy, then First Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations of Uzbekistan. In 2002-2005, he worked as the chairman of the Agency for Foreign Economic Affairs.

In 2006-2010 he headed MFERIT, and before that – in 2005-2006 he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan (2010-2012).

In 2012-2017, Elyor Ganiev headed the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In 2017-2019, he worked as head of the execution sector of the Administration (now – Administration) of the President, as well as the Deputy Adviser to the President. In 2019-2020, he served as Deputy Prime Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations.

The Ministry of Transport was created in February 2019 and became a government body in the areas of road, rail, air, river transport, metro, and road facilities.
