During the meeting, held in the format of a videoconference with the Director General of the World Health Organization Tedros Ghebreyesus, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made an overview of the activities carried out in the country to counter COVID-19.
Currently, all of humanity is faced with a new universal threat – the coronavirus pandemic. Today, based on our experience gained over a quarter of a century, we have taken comprehensive measures to combat the spread of COVID-19, the head of state said.
It was noted that in May-July, Turkmenistan has done a lot in this direction.
So, on May 22, at the state level, the Plan was approved for ensuring the preparedness of Turkmenistan to combat an acute infectious disease and take rapid response measures. The document defines specific steps to further strengthen the material and technical base necessary for the diagnosis of infectious diseases, their treatment and prevention.
Examples include the commissioned new quarantine centers, re-profiled individual medical institutions for the treatment of people with similar symptoms of an acute infectious disease. In accordance with the above-mentioned plan, the necessary medicines and medical equipment are being purchased, the head of state said.
Now a general medical examination of the population is being carried out, and effective measures are being taken to increase human immunity.
Turkmenistan, bringing its activities carried out in this area in full compliance with the work carried out by the world community, has come up with a number of important initiatives aimed at uniting international efforts in the fight against coronavirus.
In particular, the head of state noted, it was proposed to create all the necessary conditions for enhancing cooperation through scientific diplomacy, for the regular exchange of views of medical scientists, experts and specialists in other specialized fields of science. As it was emphasized, the main goal of this initiative is to establish multilateral relations aimed at a thorough study by specialists of the origin of the new type of coronavirus, the manifestation of diseases caused by this infection, as well as methods of their treatment and prevention.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said the country is ready to work together in this and other areas with the World Health Organization and other interested parties.
The head of the WHO highly appreciated the strategy developed by the Turkmen leader to improve the national system of protecting the health of citizens and the desire to actively interact with all interested partners.
Tedros Ghebreyesus also said that during the WHO mission, which recently visited Turkmenistan, experts on the spot got acquainted with the preventive measures taken and positively assessed the results of the large-scale work carried out here.
In conclusion, the Turkmen leader and the head of WHO expressed their readiness to expand cooperation and unite efforts in the fight against new threats and challenges to public health, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported.
