On August 7, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a video meeting with the head of the WHO, Tedros Ghebreyesus. The parties discussed important issues of countering COVID-19 and combating its consequences.
The head of Turkmenistan focused on the state policy in this direction, in particular, the Health program adopted 25 years ago and the plan to combat the coronavirus of May 22. Thanks to the timely and effective actions of the authorities, quarantine centers were opened, and hospitals were provided with modern equipment.
Berdymukhamedov expressed support for the WHO initiative to create the Technology Access Platform against COVID-19 (C-TAP) and suggested strengthening cooperation in the field of scientific research. In particular, the Turkmen Leader noted the importance of studying the COVID-19 genome, since the virus can cause other diseases.
Gebreyesus highly appreciated the proposals made by the President of Turkmenistan and noted the effectiveness of actions against COVID-19, which are being carried out in the country.
