17.05.2018 | Major Turkmen-American Project for Preservation of Cultural Heritage Completed

The official closing ceremony for the Turkmen-American project for restoration and conservation of the Greater Gyz Gala took place in Ancient Merv State Historical and Cultural Park on 16th May. The Greater Gyz Gala is a striking monument that has become a signature site of the largest archaeological park in the country. Its architecture is mostly known for the massive corrugated walls, ridges tightly pinned against each other to form straight lines on each of four facades. Despite being made of fragile mud bricks, the walls remained well preserved, and are now conservated.

At the February 9 meeting of the government, Vice-premier B. Abdyeva, who oversees the sphere of culture, reported on new finds, discovered in Dandanakan fortress in Mary velayat. Archaeological research on this medieval monument, located 30 kilometers west of Mary city is conducted in the framework of work on studying the historical and cultural heritage of the Great Silk Road.

During the session of the Government of Turkmenistan, the Program of events and celebrations scheduled for year 2018 that will celebrate the slogan “Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road” was submitted for consideration of the head of state.

The Mukams Palace of the State Cultural Centre of Turkmenistan held the conference “Turkmenistan – the Heart f the Great Silk Road”. Representatives of non-government organizations, mass media, cultural personnel and arts masters, students took part in the forum.
