President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has received George Tsereteli, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
The head of our state noted with satisfaction the positive dynamics in the relations between Uzbekistan and the OSCE PA, which, since the resumption of the country’s participation in this body in 2018, have reached a qualitatively new level.
Currently, a 2019-2020 “roadmap” for the development of cooperation with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is being implemented.
The OSCE PA delegation comprising about 50 lawmakers is monitoring the elections in Uzbekistan for the first time.
George Tsereteli expressed earnest gratitude to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the warm welcome and enhanced interaction with the association.
The OSCE PA President noted that Uzbekistan’s participation in the Assembly has opened up new opportunities for promoting the nation’s interests in the framework of consolidation of ties with the parliaments of OSCE member states.
In Tsereteli’s opinion, the elections held are of historic importance for Uzbekistan, since they took place during the period of large-scale reforms, on the basis of the new Electoral Code that takes into account, inter alia, the recommendations of OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.
In conclusion, words of gratefulness were expressed for the conditions delivered for the work of the OSCE long-term and short-term election observation missions in Uzbekistan.
