An outbreak of the SFTS virus, which is transmitted through ticks, has been recorded in China, RIA Novosti reports.


According to the latest data, 60 people have already been infected, seven have died. Initially, the infection was found in Jiangsu province, later residents of Anhui province also became infected with the virus.

One of the infected said that symptoms included coughing, high fever, and a decrease in the level of white blood cells and platelets in the blood.

SFTS was first identified back in 2011. The virus is transmitted both from ticks to humans, as well as from an infected person to another person – through blood or mucous membranes.
