Real Madrid and Juventus are eliminated from the UEFA Champions League

Spain’s Real Madrid and Italy’s Juventus have completed their games in the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League.

Real Madrid stopped at the stage of 1/8 finals of the Champions League. In the return match against English “Manchester City” the Spanish club lost on the road with the score – 1: 2. The meeting took place at the Etihad stadium in Manchester. The first goal against Thibault Courtois happened already in the 9th minute – the central defender Rafael Varane ineptly gave the ball to the striker of Manchester City Gabriel Jesus in his own penalty area, and he rolled a shell on the leg of Raheem Sterling, who opened the scoring without hindrance. After some time, Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema evened the score, but in the middle of the second half, the same Gabriel Jesus intercepted Varane’s unsuccessful discount on Courtois and finally deprived the “creamy” chances of continuing to fight in the tournament.

The first match of the confrontation also ended with the victory of Manchester City with a score of 2: 1. Thus, the “townspeople” reached the quarterfinals of the tournament, and the Madrid club finished their performance in this UEFA Champions League. Zinedine Zidane’s team lost both matches in the playoffs for the first time in 11 years.

In another UEFA Champions League match of the day on Friday, Juventus beat France’s Lyon 2-1 but were unable to advance to the Champions League quarter-finals due to an away goal rule. Lyon opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the meeting – the Dutch striker Memphis Depay converted a penalty. At the end of the first half, Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo leveled the score with a shot from a point. On 60 minutes, Ronaldo made a long-range shot, and the ball flew into the top nine of Lyon’s goal – 2: 1, but this was not enough for the overall success. Let us remind you that in the first game in France, Lyon beat Old Lady 1: 0.

Lyon will play in the quarterfinals against Manchester City on 15 August in Lisbon.

All quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals will take place in Portugal and will consist of one match. The quarterfinals will be held from August 12 to 15, the semi-finals on August 18 and 19. All matches will take place at the José Alvalade and Estadio do Benfica stadiums in Lisbon. The current Champions League draw will end on 23 August, when the final takes place in Lisbon at the Estadio da Luz stadium.
