Cats have long lived next to us. They are mentioned in various legends, tales and traditions, and many beliefs are associated. The most common thing is that the cat should enter the new house first. If she calmly entered and took a fancy to the place, then you can live here.
Many countries have a day of cats, but on August 8, 2002, World Day of cats appeared. World Cat Day is celebrated on the initiative of Animal Welfare – the International Fund for the Protection of Animals. On this day, the heroes of the occasion are pampered with various delicacies, new toys or houses are bought. This holiday is aimed not only at expressing love for domestic cats, but also at drawing attention to the problem of homeless animals.
It has long been known that a domestic cat has a positive effect on the nervous system, and in order to calm down after a stressful situation, you just need to pet it. And in a number of cases, the owners noted that if the “murka” lies on a sore spot, the pain recedes. In addition, cats exterminate rodents, doing a great service to humans.
Doctors in the UK have developed “cat therapy” to help cure diseases associated with joints. Their American colleagues found that heart attacks and strokes are very rare among cat lovers, and in general, they are 40% less likely to suffer from heart disease.
In Islam, the cat is considered a sacred animal, as the great prophet Muhammad treated her with great respect. In the modern world, there are many cat breeds that differ in a number of characteristics. Few people know, but all of us familiar street cats also have their own name. “European Shorthair”. But this breed is so widespread that it has depreciated long ago.
Many people strive to get themselves an elite cat, with features of the external structure or color. Several breeds are especially popular in Tajikistan, which cost a lot of money.
We will tell you about them, and you may want to settle in your house a representative of one of these wonderful breeds.
This is a young breed that has been recognized relatively recently. After all, it appeared as a result of spontaneous mutation, and not careful breeding. In 1967, a cat with ears pressed to its head was seen on one of the Scottish farms. This trait was passed on to her kittens. This breed is divided into two types: Scottish Straight (straight-eared) and Scottish-fold (fold). In 2004 the World Cat Federation (WCF) registered them as a separate breed – “Scottish Shorthair”. They appeared in Tajikistan just over 10 years ago.
Appearance. The body is medium in size, the skeleton is large, but lighter than that of the British cat. Paws are of medium length, tail slightly tapering towards the tip. The head is round, smoothly into the neck. The forehead is convex and slightly rounded. The nose is large, oblong, the chin is well developed. There is a small dimple on the bridge of the nose, which gives the muzzle a proud expression. Large owl eyes. The coat is soft, it can be either long or short.
A small “dimple” at the base of the nose, between the eyes, makes the muzzle look attractive. Because of this feature, the cat looks a little proud. The Scottish Straight has small, slightly rounded and neat ears set high and wide.
If they are too far apart, this is a sign of a breed disorder. Eyes in adult cats are: green, orange, blue, amber, copper, brown and gold. Tatiana, Scottish Field breeder says:
“When purchasing kittens from a breeder, you can look at their parents and make sure they belong to the breed. And in the pet store or in the poultry market they often offer a “pig in a poke” of unknown origin. “
On average, the cost of a thoroughbred kitten ranges from 800 to 1500 somoni… Scottish Straights are usually slightly cheaper than Scottish Field Folds. Of course, on the market you can buy a kitten even for 200 seconds, but for such a price you will most likely be deceived and slipped into a cross.
A thoroughbred kitten should have: owl eyes, a short stop (bridge of the nose), a smile and rounded cheeks. Solid blues, whites and lilacs are valued higher than blue-point, color-point, tabby, bi-color and tortoiseshell.
Character. They are intelligent, sociable animals, among which aggressive individuals are extremely rare. They like to sharpen their claws on a scratching post, not paying attention to upholstered furniture. They get used to the litter tray quickly, and are tolerant of other pets. If fed on time and pampered with toys, these are ideal family members.
They are unpretentious in care, and it is enough just to comb out their fur once a week (and daily during seasonal molting). However, the eyes should be regularly wiped with a clean, dry napkin, since due to the structural features of the facial bones, most individuals experience abundant tearing. In general, these are healthy cats that, with proper care and a balanced diet, can live up to 15 years.
This is one of the most popular breeds not only in Tajikistan, but throughout the world. Calm and phlegmatic Persians are unlikely to hunt mice, because they are created for beauty and have lost all their hunting instinct. They like to stay at home and never jump on closets, since their body structure does not allow this. The countries of origin are considered to be Armenia, Turkey and Iran.
These long-haired beauties originally lived in Persia, and the wandering Italian Pietro dalla Valle really liked them. So in the 17th century, representatives of the breed appeared in Italy, but then they had straight noses and large ears. In the 19th century, they began to actively breed, trying to change their appearance. In 1887, Persian cats, having all the characteristic modern features, were officially recognized as an independent breed.
Today there are 4 breed standards:
British type (Classical). The large nose is located 6 mm below the inner corner of the eye.
Modern type (Short-nosed). The nasal bridge is slightly raised, the gaze is open, since the nasolacrimal canals are not deformed.
American type (Extreme). Low-set ears, rounded forehead, short nose, erect eyes.
Piggy type (piggy). The skull is sloping, the nose is strongly flattened. The skeleton is lighter, due to which the weight is slightly less than other types.
Due to the special structure of the skull, Persians often suffer from increased tearing. In some individuals, an undershot occurs (the lower jaw protrudes forward), and therefore requires feeding with special feed.
In Tajikistan, prices for Persian kosha range from 300 to 700 somoni. You can buy an adult cat or cat for less.
“When buying a little kitten, many owners do not realize that such long hair must be regularly looked after: it must be combed daily with a special brush with metal teeth and sometimes cut. The fate of such animals is sad – the wool rolls into a dense roller, in which parasites multiply. The matted coat prevents animals from moving and the skin from breathing. Negligent owners are too lazy to cut it all off and they are trying to sell their pet on the market, although not every person will take it in this form even for free. So they find themselves on the street, to which they are not at all adapted. With good care and proper nutrition, they can safely live up to 20 years, ”notes the breeder Tatyana.
Persians are very attached to their masters and love to get into bed. It is almost impossible to wean them from this habit. Small children are loved and never hurt. They have high mental abilities and are trainable. Persians are prone to gluttony, which can cause them to gain weight. Try not to indulge your pet asking for a tidbit.
This breed was bred in the USA by crossing a wild Bengal cat with a regular domestic cat (European Shorthair). Geneticist Jane Meal was passionate about the idea and worked hard until the result was positive in 1983.
These are large domestic cats, however, inferior to Maine Coons. Weight ranges from 4-8 kg, and height at the withers is up to 32 cm. Bengals have a long body, covered with extravagant spots. It is the color that distinguishes this cat from her fellows, and over time, a clear breed standard was established.
The coat of Bengals is silky and has a glitter (inner sheen) which is highly prized. Because of the unusual fur of wild Bengal cats in the middle of the 20th century, they were almost exterminated in their homeland in Thailand. The spots or black marble pattern of a modern purebred cat should contrast clearly with the golden orange background. Officially recognized colors: silver tabby, brown tabby, sepia tabby, blue tabby, seal link point.
Appearance. Small wedge-shaped head, powerful jaws, rounded chin, high cheekbones. The ears are small, with slightly rounded tips. The eyes are expressive, deep-set, oval in shape. Eye color ranges from golden to green. The neck is well proportioned, long and muscular. The body is powerful, elongated. The backbone is strong. Legs are of medium length, in proportion to the body. The tail is of medium length, decorated with dark rings.
Despite the fact that this breed comes from a wild ancestor, the years of breeding have nullified all the negative manifestations of character. They have a completely calm, balanced character. However, when kept in an open-air cage, kittens can run wild, but this is easy to fix with care and attention. Bengals are born hunters, therefore, despite their friendly attitude towards other animals, it is dangerous to leave them alone with a possible victim.
They are energetic cats who love games. They need daily physical activity and the presence of toys, otherwise they will simply begin to destroy the house. Bengals are intelligent and trainable. They are unpretentious in care, as in food. In general, these cats are in good health, however, many members of the breed have weak stomachs. But a good diet will keep your cat alive for up to 20 years.
This is an expensive elite breed, and a kitten will cost 2000 somoni (and more). The price depends on the pedigree and color. The most expensive blue tabby color.
The Mainx raccoon cat is native to the USA. Bred naturally in the vicinity of Maine. Weight varies from 5 kg to 13 kg. Height at withers is from 25 to 41 cm. Males are somewhat larger than females. Live up to 15 years. These are the largest of the domestic cats. These cats love to draw water from a bowl with their paws, or to dip their toys into it.
Maine Coons have a very thick coat with a dense undercoat, thanks to life in a harsh climate. These are calm, balanced cats, despite their strict appearance, they are quite affectionate. They are sociable and strongly attached to the person. Get along well with other pets. They are very active and curious.
The Maine Coon looks like a cross between a cat, a lynx and a raccoon due to the presence of a striped tail and tassels at the tips of the ears. Therefore, there used to be rumors that the breed came about as a result of the crossing of these animals. But this is just a legend, since interspecies crossing of these animals is impossible.
Maine Coon is a muscular and sturdy cat with massive legs. The chest is wide, the neck is of medium length. This breed often has dewclaws. The muzzle is square, the eyes are straight, the ears are large, triangular.
The color is based on the following colors: black, red, blue or crepe Maine Coon. Solid colors are not common, but spots (tabby) and stripes are very common.
In Tajikistan, these cats appeared quite recently, and their cost ranges from 10 to 20 thousand somoni.
Pedigree cats are usually brought from neighboring Uzbekistan or from Russia. Scots and Persians can be purchased from breeders, and you can be sure that the breed is really clean. Many people post ads on the site somon.tj, where you can also find resellers who are ready to buy and bring an animal from abroad for a fee.
Before you get a cat, think carefully about whether you can provide it with a normal life. After all, a thoroughbred animal needs quality food, cat litter, toys, a scratching post and a nail clipper. We are always responsible for those we have tamed, so love your pets and never leave.
