Russia is watching the elections in Belarus, Moscow will assess these events later, said the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova.
“We, of course, as a foreign policy department, are monitoring this situation, we will make an assessment based on the work of observers, but all this will be done after the elections,” Zakharova is quoted as saying. RIA Novosti.
She added that Moscow is calling on the OSCE to create rules that would give an idea of what the elections should be in terms of their transparency.
“All the same, we can’t get away from the fact that all the conclusions of experts and observers should still be based on some general rules,” the diplomat explained.
Zakharova also touched upon the situation with the Russians detained in Belarus.
“The guilt of these people has not been proven. It is unacceptable to use this situation with people for some electoral purposes or interests, ”said the representative of the department.
