Air India fatalities rise after hard landing

The death toll from a hard landing by Air India has risen to 18. Both pilots are among the dead. More than 120 people were injured (15 of them are in critical condition), reports CNBC.

On Friday, August 7, an Air India Boeing 737-800, which took off from Dubai to Kolkata, made a hard landing in the Indian city of Kozhikode, Kerala. There were 190 people on board: 174 adults, ten children, two pilots and four flight attendants.

The landing took place in unfavorable weather conditions, in heavy rain. The plane could not get on the runway and sat outside, in the field. On landing, the plane split into two parts; the cockpit and the front of the liner were completely destroyed.
