Political strategist Shklyarov accused in Belarus of preparing riots

The political strategist Vitaly Shklyarov, who was detained on July 29 in Gomel, was charged. This was announced by Shklyarov’s lawyer Anton Gashinsky, reports “Interfax”.

“Shklyarov was charged under Part 1 of Article 342 – in organizing and preparing actions that grossly violate public order, or actively participating in them,” said Anton Gashinsky, quoted by the portal. The sanctions under this article provide for up to 3 years in prison.

According to Gashinsky, Shklyarov from Gomel, where he was detained, was taken to Minsk, where he was charged. He was recognized as a suspect in the criminal case against Sergei Tikhanovsky, an unregistered presidential candidate in Belarus, who is now also under investigation.

Shklyarov was chosen a preventive measure, he was in a pre-trial detention center, interrogations, confrontations, and other investigative actions were carried out with his participation, the lawyer said.

The Belarusian ONT TV channel, reporting on the arrest of Shklyarov, claimed that Shklyarov “mobilized a protest electorate around Sergei Tikhanovsky.”

In turn, the presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya told on Facebook how her husband Sergei Tikhanovsky, who is currently in a pre-trial detention center, took the information announced on Belarusian television.
