Several online competitions to mark Abai’s 175th anniversary launch across Kazakhstan | Kazakhstan News: Latest news on Kazakh TV

Abai is a world-renowned poet and philosopher. This year, the 175th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet will be marked by a deeper study of his work. It is particularly important to introduce the younger generation to the legacy of Abai Kunanbaiuly. The Children’s Library at the Kazakh National Academic Library announced the launch of an online marathon ‘Assyl sozdi izdesen…’ (If you are looking for a precious word…)

“Children aged seven to 14 can participate in the online marathon. They need to read Abai’s ‘Words of Edification’ and record them on video, and then send it to the competition. The duration of the video should not exceed three minutes. The marathon started on August 3 and will last until August 25. All interested are welcome to send their videos. One of the goals of the marathon is to increase the interest of readers in Abai’s work, as well as improve children’s reading skills, develop their creativity and broaden their horizons,” said Nurgul Amirzhanova, head of the children’s literature section of the National Academic Library.

Another event is held by the Central Children’s Library of the town of Abai. There is a literary and educational online presentation called ‘Do you know Abai?’ taking place, where children get acquainted with the works of the great Kazakh poet.

The Abai Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater is hosting an online competition ‘Abai’s songs’ for non-professional singers. Participants of the competition performed their favorite works of the poet. They recorded and sent a video of their performance to the competition commission.

“In 2020, it was planned to hold an international festival with participants from the TURKSOY member states celebrating the 175th anniversary of Abai. However, all events had to be postponed due to the spread of coronavirus. We nevertheless decided to hold an online competition and invite non-professional performers of different age to participate. After all, Abai is a national poet. Thus, we expand the boundaries for creative work. We do not limit performers in genres, they can perform both solo and in an ensemble. The competition is also intended to discover new talents,” said Director of the Abai Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater Aya Kaliyeva.

Nearly 70 applications for the competition have been already submitted from participants from different parts of the country, and an open voting has begun to determine the winners. Their names will be announced on August 10 on the website of the Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater www.gatob.kz and on social media accounts.

The most distinguished performers will be invited to the concerts under the ‘Arte Gallery Welcomes!’ project.
