The KNB of Kazakhstan announced the arrest of its ex-chairman Karim Massimov. He is suspected of treason.
“On January 6 of this year, the National Security Committee launched a pre-trial investigation into the fact of high treason, under Article 175 of Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. On the same day, on suspicion of committing this crime, former Chairman of the KNB K.K. Massimov was detained and placed in a temporary detention center. and other persons, ”the KNB said.
The KNB does not report what kind of “other persons” they are, but earlier the media mentioned the possible arrest of the nephew of Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, Samat Abish, the former first deputy chairman of the KNB – although the main Kazakh secret service then stated that the news was “provocative”.
They talked about the probable “treason” on the air of the state-owned “Khabar 24” – allegedly some people in power and in law enforcement agencies wove a conspiracy against President Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev.
Earlier, political scientist Arkady Dubnov announced the arrest of Samat’s brother Abish, the oligarch Kairat Satybaldy. Presumably, the businessman was detained in Dubai.
