Many people make the “egregious” mistake when boiling potatoes, despite the fact that this is the simplest operation imaginable. Most often, people pour potatoes with cold water. As a result, during the cooking process, it loses most of its nutrients. A better solution would be to put raw potatoes in boiling water and salt it only when it becomes soft.

Young potatoes (thoroughly washed or peeled) should be dipped in boiling water and boiled over medium heat for 15-20 minutes. Old potatoes need to be boiled in their skins, because all the most valuable is under the skin. In the case of peeling, you need to cut the peel as thin as possible.

Potatoes that you need for mashing can be cut into small pieces to reduce the cooking time. In the water in which potatoes are boiled, you can add milk in a proportion of 250 milliliters per liter, butter and onions, then the vegetable will become even tastier.

One of its advantages is that it has antioxidant properties, and is also rich in polyphenols, substances that can protect the body from oncology. The fact is that baked potatoes are rich in potassium, which is very important for weight loss. According to studies, increasing potassium in the diet by twenty-five percent helps to lose weight easier and faster. One potato a day is enough for an adult to get ten percent of the required daily intake of potassium.

A group of scientists from the UK found out that potatoes are a useful product for people with high blood pressure. To regulate pressure, baked and boiled potatoes are most useful. It is in this form that it more effectively removes excess sodium from the body.
