In the Issyk-Kul region on March 18, a strong squally wind knocked down part of the airport fence in the village of Tamchy. Eyewitnesses posted a video.
In addition, local residents report that the wind also knocked down trees along the road during the night. While the extent of the consequences of a strong wind is not known exactly, employees of the civil protection commission are working on the spot.
The airport in Tamchy was opened in August 2003, but acquired international status in June 2011. Then the government invested $80 million in its reconstruction.
In January 2023, President Sadyr Japarov attended airport in Tamchy to get acquainted with the project of its modernization. According to the authorities, they expanded the territory of the airport, installed additional fences and prepared projects for the construction of new structures to protect against mudflows. In addition, it is planned to attach a new terminal building with a capacity of 450 passengers per hour to the airport.
