A parliamentary inquiry was sent on the problems on attracting of the population to physical culture and sports

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the sixth plenary meeting of the upper chamber of parliament, the issue of sending a parliamentary request to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan on problems arising in the process of widespread involvement of the population, especially youth, in physical culture and sports, was also considered.

It was noted that over the past three years, reforms have been carried out in our country to develop physical culture and sports. Thus, the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports was formed, the Concept for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports until 2025 was adopted.

The Nukus branch of the State University of Physical Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan, the Samarkand branch of the Russian State University of Physical Culture, Youth, Sports and Tourism, the joint faculty of physical culture, sports and tourism, organized jointly with the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture, began their activities.

In addition, in accordance with the Investment Program, 69 sports facilities were built in 2019 for 244.2 billion soums. In remote villages, 421 lightweight sports halls and sports facilities with artificial turf have been built and commissioned.

In 2019, more than 53 thousand mass sports competitions were held among families, which involved more than 4.2 million citizens.

At the meeting, along with positive work, the existing problems were highlighted. Thus, sports facilities created in the regions do not fully satisfy the needs of the population.

87% of the 51,583 sports facilities available in the republic are located in districts and 13% in cities. They can accommodate 1.3 million people, which means they cover 4% of the country’s population.

According to the analysis, today there is a need for 421 sports facilities in the republic. This mainly concerns the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Kashkadarya, Syrdarya, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Surkhandarya and Tashkent regions.

In addition, on the basis of the terms of public-private partnership, land areas were not allocated for the construction of basketball courts in 96% (194) cities and districts. Due to the fact that the work on certification of sports facilities was not carried out at the proper level, 46% (4,867) of the 51583 sports facilities available in the republic were not certified.

In addition, the work on providing general education schools with sports halls is not organized at the proper level. 24% (2,359) 9942 of the general education schools of the Ministry of Public Education do not have gyms.

Despite the fact that more than 248.5 thousand events were held to attract more than 3.8 million unemployed young people to mass sports, they only cover 10% of young people.

In addition, the Senate Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports, together with UNICEF, conducted a survey on the U-report social digital platform on the current state of sports facilities and their activities, the results of which indicate a number of problems in this area.
