Our country plays an important role in ensuring security and achieving sustainable development in the world.
In recent years, our independent, eternally neutral state of Turkmenistan has established diplomatic relations with 149 countries of the world. Relations between Turkmenistan and the UN are distinguished by their strategic position. This year, Turkmenistan widely celebrated the 30th anniversary of its membership in the United Nations. As a result of the positive cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations, it is of particular importance that the country is now vice-chairing the regular session of the General Assembly for the 7th time. As it is known, in June of this year, Turkmenistan was unanimously elected as the vice-chairman of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

At the regular session, Turkmenistan submits a proposal to the UN General Assembly to declare 2025 as the “Year of Peace and Trust”.
Taking into account that December 2022 marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, a draft Resolution on the role of this center is also presented to the General Assembly for consideration.
At this session, Turkmenistan intends to start drafting the UN General Assembly Resolution “Dialogue is a guarantee of peace” by promoting the philosophy of dialogue of trust in international relations.
In May 2023, the UN Economic and Social Commission for the Asia-Pacific region is expected to resume negotiations on the draft Resolution on the establishment of the UN Special Program for the Aral Sea.
Under the auspices of the United Nations, Turkmenistan reiterates its proposal to develop a global strategy for the development of low-carbon energy, in particular, an international “Roadmap” for the development of hydrogen energy.

The Economic Cooperation Organization is one of the international organizations with which our beloved country actively cooperates. Last year, the 15th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization was held in the capital. Turkmenistan actively participates in the Summits of Heads of State of the UN. On May 13, 1996, the summit of the IOC in Ashgabat began with participation in the opening ceremony of the Tejen-Sarahs-Mashat railway. On the same day, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Georgia signed a quadrilateral agreement on cooperation in freight transport and railway transport.
Because our country attaches great importance to regional cooperation, it attracts the attention of many international organizations. One such organization is the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The diversity of Turkmenistan’s relations with this organization is closely related to the fact that the President of Turkmenistan is invited to the organization’s summits as an honored guest.
The recent participation of the President of Turkmenistan as a guest of honor at the summit of this organization and the promotion of numerous initiatives is proof of the positive foreign policy of the country.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization has been operating successfully for 21 years. The SCO is one of the effective centers of the multilateral structure of international cooperation, making an important contribution to the security of the Eurasian region, stable social and economic development, and the maintenance of international peace and stability in general. The total area of the CIS countries is more than 34 million square kilometers, that is, more than 60% of the territory of Eurasia. The total population of the CIS countries is approximately 3.4 billion people.
Initiatives to create a business council of Turkmenistan with an international organization covering such a wide area, and intensifying cooperation in the energy sector will have a positive effect on the country’s foreign economic relations.
