Former US President Donald Trump said he will be arrested on March 21 as part of a financial fraud investigation. The corresponding statement appeared on the Truth Social social network owned by Trump. About this Reuters wrote.

Trump said he obtained the information through an “illegal leak” from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. He did not give any details about possible charges, but called on his supporters to protest.

The Manhattan prosecutor’s office did not officially comment on Trump’s statement.

The former president is suspected of violating the rules of financing the election campaign. According to the investigation, Trump’s ex-lawyer Michael Cohen paid $130,000 to actress Stormi Daniels to speak publicly about her alleged affair with the politician. These expenses were later illegally reimbursed from Trump’s campaign fund. Cohen himself was sentenced to three years in prison in December 2018.

Earlier, the US media reported that Trump could be formally indicted within the next week. After formal arrest, the former president is expected to be brought before a judge, after which he will be released on bail. Therefore, according to CNN, New York’s law enforcement agencies have developed inter-agency cooperation measures for a week in order to prevent possible riots in the city.
